- Giovanni made his professional debut at the Ericsson Open in doubles in 1997 with
brother Nicolas. They reached the quarter finals.
- Giovanni was Ecuador's top player in the U16 category in 1998 and has been No.1 in
the U18 category since 1999 until now.

PERSONAL:
Earned his first ATP ranking in 1998. Won the U16 Junior Orange Bowl at
Key Biscayne in December 1999. Has represented his country in Davis Cup since he was
15 and won the deciding rubber against Great Britain (July 2000) to put Ecuador into the
World Group.
All family members are prominent in Ecuador and Giovanni first beat his father at
tennis when he was 13 years old.
Current coach is Patricio Rodriguez (who used to coach Nico) and his fitness trainer is
Hermes Romero.
[Ex Coach May 2001 to end of 2003 was Raul Viver - who is also Ecuador's Davis Cup
captain.] Has also has been coached by Lucho Ferretti, Aurelio Andrade and P Guzman
during his career.
Older brother Nicolas has enjoyed a brilliant Junior and Senior
career. Ranked as high as No.8 in the world in 1999, Nicolas will be a very hard act
to follow; but many people believe Giovanni has the talent (and will-power) to match
